Anon jogar ina bourreira
Pay what you can
Drawing on the memory of her body and the dances of her childhood, Caroline Roche revisits the bourrée auvergnate – a traditional folk dance found in many Occitan village fêtes – and transforms it into fully contemporary movement. Between tradition and experimentation, Anon jogar ina bourreira — which translates to ‘We are going to play a bourrée’ – brings together two languages: that of a dancer and that of a musician, a daughter and her father.
Far from their native Cantal and stepping onto the stage, the daughter’s dance meets the father’s cabrette – a traditional Auvergne wind instrument similar to the bagpipes – in a free, playful, and unrestrained dialogue. The duo unsettles conventions, explores transmission, desynchronisation, and hybridisation. Together, they push the boundaries of folklore to invent a new bourrée: vibrant, joyful, and emancipatory.
Full of humour and gentle self-mockery, Anon jogar ina bourreira is a work at the crossroads of tradition and contemporary invention.
